M-Audio delta 1010LT break-out box?

It took a few minutes, but I took the time to measure all connections for the audio in- and outputs of the M-Audio delta 1010LT card. I was thinking of making a more decent 19" type of break-out box myself to be able to connect more easy to the card. Does anyone have any experience with this, or am I the first to consider this option? I'm quite familiar with electronics and soldering and such, so this should be not too difficult. I've added an image showing the 44 pin male connector and its connections to the various cables/in- & outputs viewed from upfront. It seems that quite some pins remain unused, while one pin is used for the ground connection of one in and one output together. I was thinking that maybe M-Audio put some secret electronics or loops in the connector to detect the type of connector or something. Does anyone know more about this?

Not my area of expertise, but seems a lot of trouble when you could just buy the 1010 from the start.

Are you just lengthing the cables, or are you going to build a true breakout box which has the pci card outside the computer?

The idea was to extend the cables and make a box that contains the various connectors for easy access... Replacing the PCI card to outside the computer is quite some task I'd think. Basically I should have bought something more flezible that the 1010LT, but it has been good until now, and I'd like to add 8 extra channels by adding one extra 1010LT. The breakbox would be built for 2 cards so I have 16 in and 16 outputs in an 19" rack thingy.

Butget..

I really like the idea, I think I would try something like that myself, if I had a multitrack card like the 1010LT.

I think you can just try to wire it like you've drawn, I surely don't think you can destroy the card with it, so at worst it will just not work.

Good luck with it, let me know how it worked out if you have finished this!

Stan.

How's the project coming along?

I thought about it the other day and I figured you could also make something like a patchbay: just run cables from the 1010LT's ins and outs to a (DIY-)patchbay and use that as a break-out box. Would save you a lot of solering work I'd think.

Anyway let me know how the project is coming along.

Stan.

That's exactly what I've done with mine...RCA to 1/4" phono snake to patch panel works great and all the connections are at my finger tips.

Agree with two posts above, I do....

I build my own patchbay. 1010LT out RCAs to 1/4" phono female.

if you are just trying to extend the cables, wouldn't it be a lot easier just to make a breakout box, then connect it to the 1010lt via some rca cables?

save a lot of hastle i would imagine, and not as perminant.
