I use a M-Audio Audiophile USB for analogue conversion. My setup is:

Preamp Rec out ---> Audiophile USB RCA IN ----> USB OUT---->computer

No matter what software application I use (Audacity, Cooledit 2k, WaveRepair), I CAN NOT alter the recording level. Natively, I get a peak level of -6db or lower. I would like to get another 3-4db, without resorting to digital amplification of the signal.

When I try to access the Windows sound mixer, I can choose the Audiophile USB as a record option, but then the mixer choices are greyed out and unusable- meaning the source and master gain controls have -0- effect.

I have the latest M-Audio and ASIO drivers installed.

Can anyone suggest a way in which I can control recording level ?

Differant configuration ? Different software ?

Thanks in advance !

You have to set the level in the preamp (using the gain control). Once it hits the converters on the Audiophile, it becomes a digital signal. If you aren't gettting enough gain, turn up the gain on the pre.
