I just installed this and I have a few questions regarding the recording process.

I am trying to transfer some old cassettes to digital. Digital signal is going via USB to my computer.

What is the best and easiest way to save this data as raw wave files for later use/editing/burning ?

I downloaded a copy of Audacity. Can I use this ? In setup, the software prompted me to set a sample rate. Will the software -resample- the incoming data ?

Thanks in advance !

Ross

Audacity should work. Just save the files as 16 bit wav. (that is the standard for writing to CD)

The sound going from the cassette isn't sampled yet. So in Audacity (I'm not familiar with this program...so sorry if I sound stupid), when you create a new file make it a 44100Hz, 16bit file. This is a standard CD format. When you record it into the program it will capture 44100 little samples per second. You said it was asking your durin setup to set a sample rate?? Maybe Audacity always uses the same sample rate or when you choose 44100 it will always default to that. Again, hope my wonderful wisdom has made some sense.

The M-Audio samples the data and sends a digital stream. IE- when the signal emerges from the usb cable, it is a 16/44 digital stream.

Does Audacity-resample- or save a raw, unaltered stream ?

Thanks,

Ross

Audacity doesn't resample the signal. It just needs to know the sampling rate so it can playback at the right speed

I just play cassettes on my stereo, use the phone jack to go into my mixer and then run a cable into my delta box. It works fine.
