Ok, I've searched here, elsewhere on the web etc., but I'll be damned if I can find an answer...
How can I control the analog input levels short of using a variable feed to the input (pre out vs. line out)?
When this device is configured, mixer -inputs- are grayed out/not available, software like CoolEdit 2k specifically doesn't support "internal" level controls, software like Audacity, the controls have no effect etc.
Am I missing something obvious or is this just part of the design/nature of USB based a/d devices?
My line out is too "hot", so even when doing vinyl transfers it is into clipping, and I'd prefer to keep the signal as "pure" as possible, plus with a stepped attenuator in my pre, I may not have quite the degree of level control/steps I'd like (in addition to additional stages of electronics at the pre-out).
Ideas?
