M-Audio Audiophile 192 - Er, how do I record its output???

Oh weird. There must be something simple I've overlooked...

Running M-audio Audiophile 192 (latest drivers), on XP Home SP2 PC, Cubase SX3 (latest version, updated recently).

I used to use a Yamaha SW1000 soundcard, and I could use a virtual 'second input' to record its own output - so for example I'd run Cubase with audio tracks, softsynths, along with external synth modules routed into the card's input. I'd then be able to basically record whatever the output of the card was, to a track inside Cubase - which included computer generated sounds AND whatever was coming into the analogue input (synth modules). Basically my whole mix, down to stereo track.

How do I do this on the M-Audio Audiophile 192? Currently, when I drop into record in Cubase, it ONLY records what's coming in on the analogue (and I think SPDIF) inputs - I need to record also the audio tracks and softsynths too! How do I record the WHOLE of the 192's output internally?

Had a client round at the weekend for whom I'm in the middle of producing 3 songs for - a little embarrassing having to record it out to Hi-MD, and then load it back in again. :)

is there no track named "Mixer in"? that will be whatever is going into the soft mixer

Tifstorey - blimey, looks like I'm a bit buggered and will have to use 3rd party software. I just assumed that this kind of routing-output-to-input was a standard thing on soundcards - obviously not.

I wonder if I can use VAC within Cubase - not using any outside software? Hmmm..

I'm looking at that software and also TapeIt, which seems pretty good.

Thanks,

A47.

looking at the other thread, this seems like it is specific to the AP192. I use a delta card and it does have a specific "delta mixer" channel where I can record from the mixer

Yeah, i used to use the 1010 and was able to route it fine. Strange that it's just the 192.

I would think it'd be fixable through a driver update, but perhaps it's a hardware issue? Perhaps you 192 owners should get intouch with M Audio and find out :)

Yep, might contact M-audio customer support - although I've heard bad things about them... :) But it does look like a design issue - it simply doesn't do it!

I had an issue going back.. 4 years or so now. Bought a 1010 for my G5. Couldn't get it to work at all, and being new to mac's didn't know where to look to get it sorted. Called them up and spent an hour or so going through and changing settings.

M Audio: "Well.. i have no idea.. i've never come across this before, i can't understand why it's not working.. Oh... hang on.. i've just found out the 1010's aren't compatible with the G5 your using. Sorry.. Anything else i can help you with?"

I'm sure your experience will be more enjoyable and effecient though..

...

I installed TapeIt last night, and that seems to do the business, although won't record the analogue in (and I guess neither the SPDIF in).

So I was in the shower this morning and came up with a solution. Record-in the analogue-in parts (synth modules) onto a track in Cubase, then use TapeIt to record the whole thing (audio tracks, soft synths and recorded synth modules) to wav. Not ideal, but it'll work. At least I don't have to bounce it to something external, which is what I was hoping to avoid...
