Last night I was trying to get my system to record in 24 bit 96khz last night. Right now I have an Audiophile 2496 and a delta 66 synced through a spdif cable, using the audiophile as the master. I am also using Sonar 3. The whole thing works flawlessly when it is set to 24 bit 44.1khz. But when I change the m-audio contral panel to 96khz and then sonar to 96khz, sonar tells me that one or more of my audio devices is not compatible with the current settings and it resets back to 16 bit 44.1khz.

What am I doing wrong and will I really notice the difference between 96 and 44.1?

Don't know what's wrong, but if it works well at 24/44.1, get some sounds at 24/44.1 and worry about it later.

90% of the time, you're not going to notice a dramatic difference. With classical, acoustic, VERY nice sounding stuff (read: mucho high-quality top-to-bottom) there is a more substantial difference. On the Audiophile stuff (and no, I'm not knocking it - I'm a fan of a lot of M-Audio stuff) I don't know if the converters are bad-ass enough to really make it worthwhile anyway.

Personally, I STILL record at 24/44.1 if I know the project is going to end up on CD.

Me too. We´re talking about homerecording quality so it´s hard to tell any difference between 44 or 96.

Have you reprofiled the sound card in Sonar after you reset it??

If you still have trouble, you can force it to reprofile by deleting your aud.ini file.

I can't get my audiophile 24/96 to work at 44.1/24, it will do 88.2 and 96 at 24 bit, just not 44.1 and 48. Wierd.
