Lynx Two or Apogee Rosetta A/D??

I'm looking for the best A/D converters I can get for $1000 or less. The Lynx Two card stands out as a an obvious choice... I also will need D/A conversion, but mainly for monitoring. I'm not sending out to an analog board or anything.

The Apogee Rosetta A/D can be had used for around $600. This is the original Rosetta with the 96kHz upgrade. I realize for monitoring, etc I will need some D/A, but I can look into that with the extra $$.

I'm interested in hearing comments on the A/D conversion quality between these two units.

If it's just for monitoring, the Behringer SRC2496 can perform as a fairly decent DAC, about as good as an Echo Mia soundcards quality I've found, but it's certainly no Apogee. However, it is cheap and has other uses too. You might consider it as a stop gap if you decide on an Apogee a-d to start with.

Just a little below the Apogee according to the Sound-on-sound magazine review is the RME ADI-2, an external a-d/d-a box.

You need some kind of interface with s/pdif or AES/EBU connections for these external boxes, but this part doesn't affect the quality of any external converter you have, or shouldn't.

Any reason you're not looking at the Mytek or Lucid converters. Both are under 1k and have very solid reputations.

Mytek is well over 1k if I remember right. Remeber, we are talking about A/D and D/A in one box. Lucid's are OK, right there with the RME's. Even the older Apogee though, which is affordable now in used markets, still sound better in my opinion

If he is looking for AD only, the Mytek Stereo 96ADC comes in at about $995.
