Can anybody point me to any plugins, techniques or EQ settings that will help me get lush, full sounding (jazzish) female vocal tracks? Thanks.

Yo Hookie:

Well, first of all one needs the voice and training. Next, a good mic and recording gear.

Choice of reverb is important -- you don't want to sound like Echo Canyon but you do want a warm rich bounce and this is achieved by experimenting and using some delay.

If you're after a Julie London type of voice, hmmmm, nice.

Also, mic technique is very important.

What are you currently using?
Gear?
Mic?
Micpre?

thanks.
i'm using a digi 002 and PT LE. i have a cheap outboard compressor that i don't use. i have a mackie 1202 vlz and a behringer b1 or b2 mic. i record my vocals in a closet so i use a close mic technique to to eliminate a lot of the reverb.

Change mics.

Which one would depend on your budget. I have a cheapo MXL V67g thats pretty good ( for vox). For the price that is.

yeah i planned on changing mics for my next project, assuming the current one makes money! i'm just looking for plugs and techniques that could enhance what i already have in the meantime.

I've recorded a few female vocalists and I've tried the MXL V67 on them but did not like it on any of them. That could just be the 6 particular singers or maybe the V67 isn't the best choice for female voices.

I have an older CAD E-300 that sounds really nice on most of them. Check ebay. The newer model is the E-350.

The newer CAD M177's and M179's use the same capsule design as the E350, and sound very similar.

Those can be had quite reasonably, and yes, they sound great on female vox.

And Hookie, unfortunately, there really aren't any plugins that automatically make a voice fuller and lusher. Every voice is different, every situation is different, and what works on one voice won't necessarily work on another, etc. etc. etc.
