Along with the used ADAT I just purchased, I got an LRC remote. My efforts to use this thing have been frustrating. Sometimes the FFWD puts the unit into reverse, sometimes it works right (same with all the other transport controls). Is this normal, or do these things actually work for most people? I took it apart to see what shape the pcb was in, and everything looked OK (ie. no broken wires or components, no obvious shorts, etc.), so I'm not sure whether to keep trying to get it to work or file it.

Any words of wisdom are welcome.

(and my condolences, also, for anyone in the NYC or DC areas or with relatives there; many prayers are being raised on your behalf here in the boring midwest)

The LRC, being a wired remote, is very reliable and robust... that is UNLESS you've got a bad cord or a break in the wire somewhere which would be the exact cause of the symptoms you mentioned.

You should be able to easily replace the cable.

Exactly as Bruce said. A bad connection will produce that symptom. Also if you try to use one with an extention they can do that.

Actually guys, I sent one ADAT in for repair once, and when it came back, it would do sort of that same thing, go into FFWD when I hit REV. Tried different cables etc....still did it. Only happened maybe once out of every 100 times, so I just dealt with it.

Those ADAT's a choked full of VERY delicate chips and what not. I can imagine that it wouldn't take much to mess things up a bit.

DDev, you might try resetting the ADAT. Turn it off, wait 25 secs, push in REC and PLAY at the same time, and while still holding them in, turn the power on. Keep REC and Play pressed in for about 10 secs. This will clear all the buffers and whatnot the EPROM chip uses for transport functions.

Good luck.

Although I don't have the LRC, the remote that came with my XT unit tends to lock up from time to time, with none of the buttons working whatsoever. Most often the problem is fixed once the buttons on the control panel are pressed instead..

Well, I tried the reset. The controls were more consistent at first, but after a few selections began to get funky again. Will try a new cable at some point. When I first got the unit, getting into record mode was kind of funky, too. I had to press "record", then "play", then "record" again. After several samples were recorded it began to work by the book. Hmmmmm......

Anyway, thanks for the advice.

I made my first real recording last weekend with this beast and now am trying to get down a few new tricks to help while mixing down. I'm mixing down to my computer which currently is across the room from my recorder, so I was hoping to be able to string the LRC over by the pc to make my dance across the room less like an elephant parade.

Have you tried to operate the ADAT from the front panel controls without the LRC hooked up? Sonusman's comments may indicate you're looking under the wrong rock...

Mofo, the front panel controls are all working fine now. Like I mentioned earlier, I had a problem at first going into record, but since it started working right it has continued to.

I have found that the LRC will work the "play" function OK as long as I don't use any of the other functions, so I've been doing that to facilitate my mixdowns. Right now I'm spending most of my time trying to learn how to get good mixes, so haven't put much more thought into the LRC.
