low bit resolution & burning question

Quality sounds like crap when I burn a .wav file to CD. Sounds fine in .mp3 format. I have heared on this site that it maybe a low bit resolution problem. My cd burner is a Lit-on, sound card is 16 bit/48 kHs. Please help, I have just gone digital and don't know a whole lot about it.

your sound card will play no role in burning a wave file to cd audio....cd audio is 16/ 44.1.
