Sorry for the double post (I placed this in the Mixing/Mastering section first)

I've finally put some clips together with my low budget home rec. setup. If you have the time, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the audio samples (mp3's)...... mixing, tones, etc.

Thanks.

Just heard a short instrumental. I liked the mood it set, but would suggest to clean up the playing just a bit (mainly when you strike the strings and muff them), add some quality reverb, and you'll be on your way. Thanks for the mood it put me in, (very sadistically tranquil) btw. ;)

Thanks SoR,

I agree that the string noise is a bit annoying with the lead.... even with the noise gate set pretty high it sneaks in here and there. I appreciate your feedback and am happy that it affected you. Makes me feel like I'm actually making music.

I can't listen now because I'm at work. But I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping ÿour thread title "Love Your Input" was about really digging a pussy.

Wow, I hadn't thought about that......... ha, input.

I'd seriously appreciate any serious criticism, I'm just one guy doing this stuff in a spare bedroom, so feel free to nit pick away.

So are you or are you not a hot chick? :p Okay, somehow clicking on your link and seeing a giant "Death Blossom" sign, I don't think so.

Anyway, onto the song. Yeah cool moody work here. I like the distance you have in the sound, cool. On Best of Both, it does sound a bit harsh on the high end. Maybe you could work that with an EQ a bit, smooth out those high frequencies.

"For Nargal" sounds cool, no high end harshness. Are you playing bass on this too?

Overall I listened to a bunch of them, cool clips, nice guitar work ;)
Haha, and I couldn't help notice your low budget equipment list... my home studio is even lower budget :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Nope, I'm a dude.... sorry to dissapoint.

Thanks for your feedback, the highs definitely need something to mellow them out.... the processors give you plenty of nasty harshness, but not much smoothing. Oh, and I also find that when I apply any reverb it enhances the highs and thins out the tone some.

I don't have any bass on the tracks, just guitar. I'm playing that epi paul and it always adds a darker tone regardless of playing clean or distorted. I'm afraid that if I added bass it would start muddying up the mixes.

As long as I can get some exceptable results, the low budget stuff works for me...... after all, at this point I'm just playing with ideas.

thanks again. ted

Nice. Dark, moody...all good signature metal riffs. I like it all, I'd love to hear with vocals and big drums. If I can offer any advice, it wouldn't be on the music, because you do it very well. But it would be cool if you had a way to keep the title of the sample playing lit up, so that we can see what tune we're listening to. When I was listening, I went to another page during a sample, and when I came back to your page, I couldn't remember what sample I was listening to and which ones I already heard. That's abou it...the music rocks.

Listened to "For Nargal"...really like your guitar tone/sound.Drums sound cool....the mp3 compression sounds like its at a lower bit rate as there is some high end swishy sound.
" For Randy "....sounded kinda like the Randy Rhodes song "Dee"...nice playing, but the high end was kinda killer, giving this a real trebly sound.

"Rustygate" was my favorite, again, you are getting some real cool heavy guitar tones.Nice work

Thanks RAMI--

I'm a better Flash designer than I am a musician,.. that's an excellent idea about marking which song is actively playing.

I appreciate your comments about the music, not too many people are into metal/metal influenced stuff and or care to critique.... hopefully I'm doing something right, at least what's coming out of me feels right.

Man, I really enjoyed the samples on your soundclick page. Everything sounds so raw and organic. I'm guessing you're using real amps and drums, cause it sounds warm and alive. How'd you mix the vocals? That's something I'd love to do, but am basically chicken shit. Thanks again for your time/comments.

Hey Variaxman,

The tone is all J-Station. My guess on the swishy is that my fingers are making a horrible string skip/slide noise on the rhythm track and that the reverb and highs are accentuating the effect. ?my guess?

Right on, that was a cover [well, my attempt] at DEE. I'm a huge fan.... and it was DEE that made me want to play the guitar. I agree, the reverb on that track is too much and the highs are almost uncomfortable in some spots.

Sweet, I'm glad you liked the Rustygate riff....... it's super simple, but I think that's why I like it. Take care.
