Hey guys, I just got done reading the whole "worst drummer" thread and I found your perspectives all pretty interesting-mainly because you are all die-hard drummers. I am more into melody/writing but I play drums a little too. Anyway, I wanted your opinion on this guy's work. His name is Louis Schefano and he was the first drummer for the old group Remy Zero. I mainly like his recent songwriting/singing/guitar work, but as for drums he's got this cool style, I think. What do you guys think? Check this out if you have time.
-Perry

And if you happen to be familiar with Remy Zero (other than "Save Me") what do you think of Gregory Slay's work?

NOT TOO BAD.I LIKE THE GROOVE!
I had the tom sounding a little off on the recording, might of been my speakers.

I'll tell you from the experience of playing riffs like this: That guy's got one hell of a left hand. That's pretty hard to keep that kind of pattern going and make it lope that well. I'm not really familiar with most Remy Zero stuff, but I'm not totally unfamiliar either. Good stuff.

Most uneducated drummers always rate a drummer by flash, totally ignoring how important it is to have good steady time. That's why guys like Jeff Porcaro and Steve Gadd were so well respected. They were always in the pocket and they didn't have to listen to a click. not to mention they could pour on the fancy stuff, but ONLY when it was called for.

Flash is neat, but if you can play all the flash and not keep good time, you're still a crap drummer.

Why

Being a right handed drummer,Why is it that my left is faster?
My right is stronger, more endurance......

Right, but if you know your rudaments, you can find a greater expression in your playing. Being able to let each hand go where you want it to go makes phrasing easier. Balance is the key! It's not just about speed.

not to bitch, but his left hand dosnt seem very fast at all.

It's funny how people will read several threads together and make a conclusion out of all of them combined. I never said his left hand was fast, I said he had a great left hand. If you listen to that track, besides the backbeat, he's playing a diddle on the snare and then two tom hits all with his left hand. He sustains an even, smooth tempo throughout the song and doesn't seem to fatigue at all. Perfect control. --- A great left hand.
