Hello all! First post!

I recently did a vocal cover of No Leaf Clover by downloading the instrumental karaoke version off of YouTube and moving it into Pro Tools. Mainly I wanted to mess around with my own vocals and see if I could get a good sound out as well as obtaining the Metallica sound.

I had a lot of fun doing this and I REALLY like the softer parts BUT....

I canNOT get a good sound out of the louder parts. Although I am pretty loud during the louder/grittier parts of that song, they feel a little weak and off.

Any No Leaf Clover fans that have any ideas for mixing technique during the louder parts? By recording standards I am extremely amateur.

Really appreciate it!

Compression helps with that a LITTLE. But, the best thing you can do to improve your vocal track, is to improve your singing. If the vocals are off, I would recommend just singing it again. Get some advice on the singing and vocals forum.

I am using an Audio Technica A2035 with a cheap pop filter. Then it runs into PTs through a mini mbox 2. The room is not treated at all (assuming sound proofing and acoustics). Its living room size with all sorts of other instruments. I tried not to over edit the loud parts and I ended up getting a pretty cool sound for the bullet mic part in the song.

I will redo those parts but I would like to know if there is any vocal setup that would help the process.
