Thanx in Advance for any ideas.

1. My Darla24 has eight outputs, which show up in the Console view of Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. Today, only outputs 1 and 2 are showing up. What Gives? (they are not registering anywhere, like they have vanished)

2. When setting recording levels, should I use the Darla24 meters or the Cakewalk meters? The cakewalk meters seem to be very inaccurate. If I have a signal that reaches -12db in the cakewalk console, it clips on playback.

3. I have read about de-essers, but what about de- P-ers?
I am recording a country song for a "client", and every time a word starts with "P", it distorts, because she puts too much emphasis on it.

4. Any advice on making my own "windscreen", and will that really help matters?

5. Are there any decent free compressor plug-ins for PA9? Can they be added after recording, or from the tracking start?

6. As far as plug-ins that come with PA9, which are the best? Does anyone use the Reverb or the Chorus plug-ins?
Are there any free plug-ins I should be aware about?

7. When recording vocals (one mike), how far away does the singer stand from the mike?

8. Do you guys know who killed Chandra Levy?

Thanx, Dave

What's up DK.

1) Try restarting your computer.

2) Use the Darla 24's meters.

3) You would use the same plug-in for silibants "esses" and "pops".

4) Panty hose and a metal hangar.

5) i don't know but you could check out this site...

http://www.studiocovers.com/articles.htm

6) ???

7) It varies on who is singing, rapping, or talking.

8) ???

Thanks Spin and C7, I downloaded a bunch of plug-in demos today. Condit killed Chandra, but he is not a suspect.

RE: Q4 - Get some wire clothes hanger and coil it around the top of the microphone stand with and extra bit shaped in a circle left over so you can strech some ladies tights over it. The circular part with the tights should be between the singers mouth and the microphone, this should dampen 'plosive P's.

1)Go Options>Audio>Drivers tab and make sure all the I/O,s you want active are highlited..if you make changes you will have to exit Cakewalk and reopen for the changes to take effect

2)For that big a difference, it sounds like you have a feedback loop. What are you using for a monitor setup? A mixer perhaps?

3) Use a pop filter

4) Buy one. When your clients see it you gain "pro status" in their minds. :)

5) The one in cakewalk is better than any free one available. It does require some studying though to learn how to use it, But it has all you could need as far as adjustment on the parameters ..just shitty metering..dont look at the graph :)

6)All of the plug-ins are doable..but you need to know what the paramters are and how to adjust them..heres a real simple good free reverb to check out http: //home.onet.co.uk/~jzracc/freeverb.htm
(dont know if I did the link thang right)

7) It varies, try it all, from damn near eating the mike to 12 inches away and keep them all..you might get a pleasant surprise :)

8) Nope

Thanx Papillion and Elbenj.

Elbenj,

1: Nope, they are just not there. I will assume the drivers possibly went corrupt and will try downloading newer ones.

2: I am not sure what that means. My mixer is a Spirit F1 16x2, my monitors Tannoys, I think Pb8's. There is ahuge discrepancy between the Darla24 console and Cakewalks.

3: Have made a pop filter

4: Have made a pop filter that looks like crap, will buy a real one someday.

5 and 6: found some really nice plug-in demos, some last for thirty days, so that will be enough time to do a few tunes and audition before I buy

7: Obviously just takes practice

8: I really dont care anymore, I just want him off my TV.

Cheers, Dave
