grrrr!

Everything was going FINE. I recorded TWO songs. Now SUDDENLY today I can't get a signal through the mic input into n-track. If I turn the input up ALL the way and turn the master volume on my keyboard ALL the way up (audio, not MIDI), I can see it register on the monitor but very low. If I record, I can't hear anything on the playback but hiss. In fact, I'm hearing hiss all the time in the headphones - even when nothing is playing.

I've checked the system sound volume control
I've checked the cable and tried several
I've checked the keyboard and tried other inputs (voice in a mic, e.g.)
I've checked whether the computer is receiving sound through line in (it is - when n-track is not open, the keyboard sound comes through the computer's speakers)

I don't know what else to check!

Does it ever get easy or is it just endless pain and despair?

It just occurred to me that at the same time I stopped getting a signal to n-tracks, I STARTED getting a signal to the computer's external speakers. If I play a note with the speakers turned up at all, the sound blares through the speakers very loud and hugely distorted. I never had the signal go straight to the speakers before and I don't know why it would do that or what it means or how to change it.

Thanks,

Jody
