i've been recording on a Roland 880 digital studio and then running it to a wav studio on my computer. sounds great! until i try to make a tape of it. becomes distorted or i can't get enough volume when played through a stereo.

I am wanting to buy a burner to record from the wav to cd, will i lose the same volume?

i'm finally trying to put my skills on something i can listen to and it's frustrating. gotta learn all i can

thanks

This could be several things.

1. Make sure you're using the line in on your soundcard.

2. In your wav recorder, do you get to see the waveforms when you've finished recording? You probably do. Do the peaks of the waveforms go up to the top of the display (or close to it) ie 0dB? If not, re-record the track with a higher ouput level on the 8track (if possible), or a higher input gain on the soundcard.

3. Check in the windows sound mixer ie double click on the speaker icon in bottom right corner of desktop. Make sure the digital output/wav fader is all the way up, do the same with the overall fader.

4. Listen to the output on the amp, make sure that what you hear from the computer is the same as you hear from, say, the CD player (roughly).

5. If you've done all this and it's all ok, record from CD to tape then from PC to tape and see if the levels are similar.

Hope some of this helps, sorry if it's a bit simplistic,

matt
