Loops for Drums Vs. MIDI Drums??

Hi,
It seems to me that many people who post here seem to use programs such as Fruity Loops to generate drum tracks, rather than using MIDI (which, to me, gives more control over specific programming, rather than cutting and pasting a looped .WAV file).

Is this perception of mine accurate? If so, why is this? Are most MIDI drum sounds not very good? (I've heard good and bad MIDI drums, but have preferred the loops that I've heard).

Interested,

They are now some awesome drums samples that allow you a very realistic sound...

The one I like the most is BFD (http://www.fxpansion.com/product-bfd-main.php).. even the interface is pretty cool. It's a VST (2 DVD's of sounds) that even incorporates overheads, room ambient sound, etc, etc....

Other good drum samples packages included DKFH (drumkit from hell) and scarbee imperial drums.
