If you like the 414, then check out the C4000 from AKG.
Don' know what the US price is, but they sound sweet.

sorry I haven't replied in a while. I subscribed to this thread so I could get an email when there were replies, but apparently its not working. to answer all of the questions.
I am using this to record vocals and acoustic guitar only. I could split this up and get a vocal mic and an acoustic guitar mic. The C1 does an OK job, but it seems so thin to me. Especially on the guitar. My voice is a tenor. As for my friend having the 414. It sounds good, but I have not recorded on it. So I couldn't say if I sound good on it. I am mainly looking for some suggestions from you guys so I can go and try these mics out. Sorry I forgot to say my uses. Any other suggestions on what I should try out for a tenor voice. Anything else you guys need to know. Oh, and if you think a better pre-amp needs to be purchased please recommend me some good ones there.
