I have been getting by fine with a 16 bit Steinberg card that came with Cubasis VST. It out lasted the software which never worked right for two years before I dumped it in favor of Cakewalk.

But I would like to by a 24 card now. I do not care about midi at all. I play solo acoustic guitar, but do want to expand into multitracking more instruments.

Right now I run two mikes through the preamps in a small Mackie board, then out to the card.

I would like to be able to run four mikes, so I can have two stereo pairs.

But I understand most soundcards with their own inputs only have two xlr inputs and two 1/4".

I guess I could use two direct to the card and two through the Mackie board then to the 1/4" inputs.

But is there a card out there with more than two xlr inputs?

What are leading sellers in the $200 and under range and why are they considered the good ones?

Thanks

You want a 24channel card with preamps for $200? You're going to have a hard time finding that.

Did you mean a 24bit card with 4 inputs and preamps?

doh

Yes.

I meant 24 bit, 4 xlr input with preamps at the $500 or under.

Twas the cold medicine I think that made me say that all wrong.
