I have finally came to the conclusion that rather than trying to get our old PC to record digital audio I'm just going to do the build your own type of thing (I have heard it's better that way anyways). Now I consider myself somewhat computer smart but have obviously never done something like this before...BUT I have a friend of mine who's a computer tech and would probably help me along the way. But anyways, I was wanting to know info on some good brands and combinations to check out for motherboards, hard drives, processors, etc. I'd like to keep the price somewhat low but not to the point where I'll definitely need to upgrade. Plan on getting the obvious important basics (motherboard, ram, some "cheap" video card, processor) and for the audio related things: 2 hard drives (one 5400 and one 7200), soundcard (audiophile perhaps), CD Burner... That's pretty much all I got planned at this point. This will probably be a long term project and probably just build it piece by piece. My style of music is more rock oriented and I usually can record a decent demo of about 5 to 6 tracks but with a PC I may go a little overboard...although don't think I should exceed 20 tracks or anything. But anyways I'm open for any suggestions on where to start. Thanks.
