Hey guys, this is my first thread, been searching this forum for a while and I am very impressed, and excited to gain some knowledge. Hopefully I can give some too someday (I am fairly new to this though).

Anyway, here's what I am looking for some advice on:

A Condenser mic for micing a guitar amp.

Here is the context:

I have an SM57 (I plan on close micing it), but I've heard you can get a fuller sound with a condenser spaced farther away from the amp (I will experiment with the placement).

I am playing a Les Paul Classic through a marshall DSL 50 head to a Mesa 2x12 cab. The sound is hard rock, crunching guitar, kind of metal (not too gainy though, gain knob at around 5 or 6), and I DO NOT scoop the mids. I'm looking to improve my recorded guitar sound and make it sound bigger and fuller.

I'm looking for the best mic for this situation. Any input would really help, even you don't think I am going the right route with a condenser mic. Thanks.

You'd be hard to go wrong with something like an AT-4033. It'll handle rude amounts of SPL and can be had under $300.

Audible..

Welcome to the board Bud... Now life is all downhill from here.. :D

(Kidding..)

If I were you I would stick with the SM57.. thats what most people use around here...

Practice your mic placement and eqing et..

Now If you were talking about vocals, I would reccomend a Audio Technica 4033...

But just speaking of your guitar situation, I would say stick the the 57...

Voxvender, yeah I think my check book my be heading downhill in the near future. :)

Sound Preasure Level. It referes to the amount of sound a mic can take before it folds over. An important consideration if you want to set one in front of a dimed amp.

Actually you get your best results from using a low wattage amp that breaks up at a lower volume. and the LD condencer 5 feet away will make it sound twice as big.

For that mic Id choose the SP B1 good value for your money and rock solid.

I haven't heard of the SP B1. What brand is it?

Or did you mean the Studio Projects C1?

thanks.

Don't like to speak for anyone, but I believe he means Studio Projects new B1.
