Looking for Rackmount Power Amp... suggestions?

Hello everyone!

I'd like to purchase a Rackmount Power Amp in a 1U,2U or 3U configuration. I'd prefer Tube but if I can find a decent Solid State unit I'd go with that. I will be installing it in a rackmount case along with my Digitech GSP 2101 as the preamp. I would only be using it to jam with friends in a small rehersal studio, gobs of power is not necessary. If heat buildup is going to be a problem I can always install a spacer in the rack case and attach a couple of fans. I also have no problem drilling holes into the Amp's case to assist with ventilation.

The MosValve is also a good option. Tubeworks used to make them, and you can find them on EBay. Lots of power and good sound for guitars.

I've talked to a fellow player here in my area and he agrees with you. I've found several on Ebay but I can't find the list or street price for these. Does anyone know the going price on a new one?

You can't go wrong with a Mackie power amp. I have used both tht 1200 and 1400 and they are as stable as they get. You can find one of the older FR1200's on Ebay for a couple hundred dollars or the 1400 for 250-300 plus shipping (which can be expensive as these are not light units) and it will last forever. I also recommend QSC for the same reasons above.

I work with a guy that has a 2101 and mackie power amps (2100 watts into 6 cabinets) It is the worst sounding pile of flotsam....EVER!!!!! With the 2101 your only hope would be a tube power amp (that might not even help) My vote would be for the mesa

Thank for the suggestion. I almost forgot they made a rackmount poweramp. They are very close to me and I can go visit them and give this thing a try in person. Also, if I like it I don't have to pay for shipping!
 
This is a listing of all the California dealers of Mesa gear. Call the nearest one and ask. If you visit, you could try one out.
Take your guitar, and go on a weekday morning - it will be quiet and you can actually get an idea of if you like it.

It will take you a while to figure out how it works - Boogies are not the easiest amps to figure out - but it's well worth the time to get the amp you will use for the rest of your life.
