Slowing becoming un-noob.
Anyone have any suggestions?? I'm looking for some nice locking tuners with a high ratio, preferably 18:1 or so. Anyone have any suggestions? I need 3 on each side tuners, if that makes sense.

Thanks for the help!

I'd recommend you check the Stew Mac or Warmoth web sites. They both sell a selection of tuning machines.

Go to ALLPARTS and do a search for part # TK 7237. Gotoh 510 3 on a side locking gears - the best on the market, period.

You'll love them.

i have had great luck with the planet waves and sperzel

Although I admittedly don't know a heck of a lot about tuners, I do know Planet Waves' auto-trim heads are flippin' sweet! They're much like any other locking tuners (with decent action in my opinion), but they also cut the string while you're tuning! It's great for quick string-changes :)

I've seen those, but wasn't sure if they were locking or not. Are they for sure locking?

And as far as any tuners go, do I have to make sure I get a certain size or anything? Or will any size fit what I'm looking for.

I have an Esp F-100fm and I'm most likely going to get the Planet Waves' Auto Trim tuners...will they fit just fine and everything? or...?

Thanks for the help!

Of course! I've got a set on my main guitar :) Had 'em for over a year, never regretted my decision once!

Why is that? I have the original tuners on my Strat and Les Paul, and they stay in tune just fine. What would locking tuners do for me?

You must have a hard tail on your strat or not use the whammy bar if they never go out of tune.

You would not believe how fast your can change a set of strings with locking tuners. Their worth the price for that one feature alone if you play out much.
Also their usually bulkyier and heavier than standard tuners so they increase sustain as well.

i thought it was the other way around and you had to have as little mass as possible on the headstock for good sustain.

first thing I had to change on a Squire...

Sperzel locking tuners never a problem in over 10years...excellent quality built product. imo.

ah...but the tech did chip my headstock drilling the hole bigger. I was young and quiet, I left pissed. That doesn't happen anymore, now I yell before they do anything to my guitars!
works much better. :p

I was gonna mention something about the holes actually, thanks for reminding me! When you get new tuners, it's possible (likely) that you'll have to do some drilling: either for the little screws that hold 'em in, or for the tuners themselves as they aren't all the same diameter. Also, it's quite easy to muck up the wood/paint/whatever on your headstock when tightening the tuners in.

So... take your time! :)

I can tell a difference on the 2 electrics I have with sperzels. I've also noticed it with neck replacements. There are several others who have experienced the same results. It makes sense to me, here is one link you should be able to find more if you search.

Just put a set of the Grover mini auto lockers on my bender tele they work great, you can nearly do an instant string change, push the string through the hole pull tight and bring to tension, some of the Sperzels seem a wee bit lacking in there quality, i have a strat with the sperzels and that locking wheel is rough.....the mini Grovers leave em standing in my opinion....you may have to ream out the tuner peg hole if you have vintage style tuners at present....

No, I have a tremelo Strat and I use the bar all the time. Tuning probs associated with tremelo Strats are most often due to friction in the nut and string trees, not in the tuners. I have a bone nut cut accurately to the strings I use (11's) and a graphite string tree, and I use a slurry of graphite dust and Teflon grease in the nut slots. I don't have tuning problems.

Looks like you use a Tele more than a strat on your webpage ;)

I have an AM strat with the locking sperzels, graphtech nut, graphtech trees,
graphtech saddle blocks. Set to Fender specs on whammy adjustment. Even using graphite on the slots and it still won't stay in tune for more than a song
or two with moderate whammy action. My fix for that was 2 teles and a hardtail strat. Now I haven't tryed this teflon grease yet. Do you use that in conjunction with the graphite dust? must make it stay in the slots better I suppose.
