I recorded this a couple of weeks ago for Chaosphate which is me writing the tunes, then a vocalist writing lyrics and singing on it. There is also a live band that plays out, but I don't play out with them because the guys the singer got all live too far for my liking.

I'm looking for some feedback on the mix, mainly, I'm not sure if it has enough low end to it... To me everything else seems fine, I'm just not sure if it needs a bit more low end... I just don't want to over do it.

Also I would like some feedback on the vocals. I'm just curious what other people think.

Here is the link, the tune is called Drowning:

Bass has an excellent punch man...it's not lacking as far as I am concerned. I think the tune is very full, sonically....and to me the vox are juxst fine. You might try and bring them up a db or 2, but they may sit ontop of the mix then...

Cool tune man...nice riffs. Great sounds.

I'm gonna confirm what you were already thinking.

Needs a tad more low end. Plus the guitars seem like they dont' have enough character, I could go for a little more crunch in the high-mid area. Besides that... I hate you. I'll never get a mix that good of quality. Ya Bastid.

I had added 2db to the low end before but thought maybe it was a bit to much but now I'm thinking it was needed

I'm not sure if I want to add any more to the upper mids on the guitar, mainly, it can get a bit hard on the ears sometimes when there is to much in that range.

I think adding anymore to the vox would probably bring it to far out of the mix. I was messing around with it, but as soon as I added even 1db, it just jump right out of the mix...

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm at a crossroads where I'm not sure if I want to write tunes and record for these guys anymore. Actually I started the project hoping it would go into something live but I am not willing to make a drive accross my state for practices.

I'm listening on tiny computer speakers, so I cant vouch for the low end part. But I agree with the other poster about the guitars needing more crunch, but the answer may not be adding more crunch in eq, but taking out some lower end mud and boosting them in the mix a little. The vocals are a little loud for my taste. I like the vocals to be nestled into the guitars a little more. Although the vocal production does sound really good to me. Good job on all the overdubs. I like the clean guitar tone too it sounds really nice. Is the kick a sample? It sounds like it could have more of a low thump to it, but then again it could be these speakers. Thanks for sharing, I started a thread called "comments on a metal mix" and I would appreciate any advice. Later

Bass guitar seems ok to me - punchy and enough bottom end for me.....

Vocals are good where they are....pretty good range...

Don't care for the lead guitar tone though - on phones it makes my ears bleed on certain high notes

The rhythm guitar is good and raunchy.

Cool tune too - good writing by everyone.......

:) :D :) :D
