Hi! Could anyone please tell me what makes this scratchy effect in this melody on the link? You may need to copy-paste it to the browser, as the thread is quite long:

http://media2.sonicbids.com/EPK/Assets/audio.m3u?file_id={95D72085-125C-4F3B-A3E3-02784B38C5DD}

I'm not looking for the bass, nor the drums, nor the pad, but that aggresive lead effect. Was it made with a synthetizer? Or is there any sample CD out there with such content? I'm looking for an aggressive lead synth that evolves in time, has many parameters to give life to it, and would perfectly match with distorted guitar.

Thanks!

Robin

just about any modern VA synth will do that. It does sound like it has alot of effets on it though. Check out the Z3ta or discoDSP

My V-synth does that very well .

So does an access virus

Korg MS2000 isnt too bad either !

That sqreatch sound is made by the opening and closing of Resonance in the Filter section of a synth patch.

Almost there. I think you meant opening and closing the Filter (modulating the Cutoff) with high resonance.

The key to this is using high resonance + distortion AFTER the filter. You'd get better results with 12dB and/or 18dB low-pass filters rather than the Moog type 24dB ones.

Another way to achieve similar sounds is to use a parametric EQ with a narrow Q, high gain + distortion, then automating the EQ frequency.

Use a sawtooth or a narrow pulse (1/3 or 1/4) wave tuned 2 octaves down, or play in the region that's 2 octaves below middle C.

As for the synth that you describe that would match perfectly a distorted guitar... take a look at the Dave Smith Evolver or Poly Evolver... incidentally it can do those kinds of sounds with relative ease, plus you can plugin your guitar into it for further sonic mayhem... I've been salivating over one for a while myself.
