I'm looking for an audio interface which has:

* 4+ channels of analog(mic) input
* of which, 2+ will have to be XLR with phantom power
* USB connection (2.0 prefered)
* using: MacBook Snow Leopard+GarageBand

Now I know alot of high-end stuff have this, easily, but I'm on a REALLY tight budget... so I need to know my cheapest options.

The cheapest, decent one I know is M-AUDIO Fast Track Ultra. Any better/cheaper ones?

Thanks in advance!!

No.
In your price range, that's the first one that comes to my mind.
Not a bad one either if their other products are anything to go by.
Does it have ADAT I/O?
If not, my next choice would be MOTU but once you get into 4 channels it gets a wee bit pricey.

Anybody have any other suggestions?

I have the Lexicon Omega which is selling for 179 in the last Sweetwater catalogue. I have been pleased with it for the $.

Tascam M-164UF is 16 channel mixer and 16 channel USB 2.0 audio interface in one unit.
FYI, ch 1 to 10 are direct, 11/12 = fx 1&2, 13/14 = sub mix, 15/16 = stereo mix

I have one, and extremely pleased with functionality, drivers and how quiet it is.
The retail price is around $500 US. Seen them listed for cheaper at Sweetwater website. I paid $525 Cdn in Dec 2009.
Well worth the money, and IMHO more flexible than the Fast Track Ultra
