Looking for a vocal harmonies effects box

It seems to me that Musician's Friend offered a $300 or so box that you could sing into and then modify your voice to various octives to hear what various harmonies would sound like. I don't want recording quality stuff, I just want something that shows me all of the various harmony possibilities. Does this product still exist?!!?!?!

What software do you use? I can do that in my Cubase SX...

Also, do you know how to use a piano? Try transposing your melody into other keys...

I use N-Track, but my guitar partner uses Cubase.

VoiceWorks by TC Helicon is a good one. You can adjust up or down up to 2 octaves, select two-threee-or four part harmonies, 3rds,5ths, and octaves above or below the note you are singing,you can sing chords too.

Um, vocal lessons are not necessary, it's a learned skill (i.e., theory) to learn how vocal harmonies sound, and how to write them.

True, the Beach Boys didn't use a $300 device to do their vocal harmonies...they spent thousands of dollars, take after take in the studio (Witness the making of Pet sounds, dics 3 to be more specific). If the original poster wants a harnomizer,they probably have some singing talent not all harmonizers have auto-tune.You need to be able to sing well enough to have that vocal harmonized to begin with (if you sing one section even a few cents flat over a harmonizer, it sound unpleasent).Even with a range of only an octave, you can sing thirds, fifths, sevenths and ocataves. If you are doing a four part harmony section and you are a solo artist, all four parts must be recorded serperately.If you are paying for studio time, it be more cost effective to do the harmonies using a harmonizer than to keep doing takes until it sounds perfect, no?

I don't think the OP was talking about pitch correction - he was looking for something to 'write' his vocal harmonies with.

I had a Digitech Vocalist Workstation I bought from the boards here a couple of years back... It was fun to play with and did everything you're looking for...
I sold mine because I needed other gadgets in my studio (my keyboard player was the saddest to see it go.. He loved playing with it)

I think you can get them off Ebay for a couple hunnert bucks still..

CSNY may have had their "A" game going on in the studio years ago by sheer luck or doing take after take after take, but as a group, or as individual performers, I can't ever recall hearing them convincingly pull off those magical harmonies in a live situation.

Weird. Just yesterday, I ordered the TC Voice works myself.

I don't know whether to cry or celebrate.

Getting older hasn't helped.

Can't quite hit those high notes anymore with accuracy.

I once owned the Digitech Vocalist. Although I only used it to record a few Christmas tunes for my grandaughters, the harmonies came out quite good.

The reverbs on the unit seemed to be decent.

I gave the Vocalist to a friend of mine a few months ago because I knew I would eventually get the Helicon.

The Vocalist isn't a crap unit at all. All it lacked for me....was pitch control.
