Looking for a pro CD recorder

Hey crew, I'm looking into purchasing a CD recorder and would like some opinions.

What I'd like to do is take a feed from my DAW (and/or mixer) and record directly to a CD recorder in real time. Balanced I/O would be a good option; SPDIF would be nice too.

Anyboy out there using one they can recommend?
 
Alesis Masterlink 9600 is the first one that comes to mind.
 
Not sure what your budget is but Tascam has a few out. I know the Tascam CD-RW750 has S/PDIF and a bunch of otha cool features. May I ask why you would want to record in Real Time and not jus track it to your computer?

I do track to the computer, but customers usually want copies at the end of each session. I record at 48k/32 bit float, so rather than dithering on export- I figured I would just record the output of the DAW to an external CD recorder.

There are also times when I just want to capture an impromtu jam session. I've got two PZMs in the room that I would route directly to the CD recorder- record the jams in real time- hit finalize and it's done.

What he said annnnd as far as pc-based burners, check out Plextors!
 
Tnx 4 replies - I really like the Masterlink 9600- I wonder how it compares sonically to the Tascam and HHB units.

There's a few options...

Does your DAW have an export function? That way you can export the .wav file to your desktop (or wherever else you like) & burn it right from your computer. If you need CD burning software: Sony makes CD Architect which is both easy to pick up & does CD's to red book specs. You can go with an Alesis Masterlink for an external unit with the most editing options (though I previously read of a new one from Alesis, at least I think it was Alesis, or was it TASCAM?). If you just want a plain ol' burner HBB makes a neat one along with TASCAM. There's a bit of a selection. It just depends on what you already have & what you're really looking for.
