Current Status:- My mixer is a Behringer DDX-3216
- My recorder is an Alesis HD24/ MOTU 2408
- I am in the process of upgrading my mic pres (4 down, 4 to go; I want at least 8 good pres.).
Situation:
I am hoping to upgrade my mixer by the end of the year, pending my mic pre upgrade. I do like the features of my digital mixer, so I was leaning towards the Tascam DM3200. Lately I have been thinking of going back to mix via Sonar and summing on an external mixer as that is what I did prior to having the HD24. I would still track using the HD24 because of the stability, but mixing within the PC more flexible in what I could do.
I have owned a Hill and an MCI in the past and they have given me a sound closer to what I want.
Would I be better off going back to an analog mixer/summer than going to Tascam DM3200?
If so, which one?
Here are my requirements:
- Budget $3K-ish or less
- Must NOT be a high maintenance board.
- I need something that can handle at least 24 to 32 inputs.
- Not much bigger than the DM3200 as I have very limited studio space.
- Mic Pres are not an issue, but if they have good ones, it would be a plus.
