Alright, Im looking for a mic that can decently record amplified guitars, distorted and clean, drums, bass and vocals.

My budget for this mic is 150$...

Any suggestions?

Try this out man................check out a used SM57 AND a used SM58 on Ebay.......i would almost garuntee you can get BOTH of those for 150 bucks!!!!!!

use the SM57 for recording your guitars/bass

use the SM58 for recording your vocals

GOOD LUCK MAN

CHEERS!!!!!!!!

Lower your expectations or raise your budget.

Are we talking about rock music here or some other brand? What is the aim of your recording? More info please...

I disagree in way. An SM57 has the potential to do pretty much everything he's talking about decently. However, it is worth noting that a SINGLE mic will probably not do a great job with drums (depending on what you're going for), and in order to get the full potential out of an SM57, or any mic, is with a lot of practice, great ears, and a decent preamp.

I believe the SM57 is hyped in the upper mid to make vocals sound brighter. This causes many instruments to sound slightly harsh when using that mic. Especially if you need to EQ it hard.

For a stating newbie I would instead suggest the Shure SM27. It has a much smoother frequency response and sounds very sweet on a lot of instruments, (but then, that is a $300 mic.)

Alternative: Shure recently introduced a budget version of the SM27 called the PG27. It has the same capsule and has almost the same frequency response. It comes in a few different versions. The XLR condenser version is only $149 new. You will also get more rich low end out of it than the 57.

There you go. Problem solved. ;)
