could definitely use a mentor. im about to start school for bachelors in music production. more for knowledge but its all online (cause im in the military and dont have time for a on campus school) so no hands on even though they send me some software and hardware. i have some of my own equipment i got into this to record my wife but never really knew how technical this stuff is. i love it though. i need advice on how to set up equipment how to use it all properly, etc. so if youre in the wilmington, nc area or just someone who can walk me through stuff on the phone, here, or email id appreciate everything. or if someone has a home studio around the area i could maybe toss some cash ur way to teach me. lookin for yoda (so to speak) haha

thanks, tyler

I'm not in the area, but I'm certainly willing to help.

What kind of things are you looking to set-up and stuff?

well as of right now im tryin to figure out if i really need a mixer or not. but how do i make it so the person singing, or playing an insturment can hear to record over previous recorded tracks and also allow the "producer" to hear it?

The answer is no. The description of why may take a while, and I need to go to bed. lol

Sorry, long day. Kid will take good care of you, and many of us will be here to help.

I personally don't recommend a mixer to anyone.
I think interfaces are the way to go.
Generally speaking, I find the pre E.Q. on mixers to be useless since I prefer to commit to sounds on preamps,
and then do everything else 'in the box'.

But before we go deeper here, we need to know what your current setup is like and some more details on what your looking to do.
