yeah thanks famous beagle and Ive been "stockpiling" XLII's and TDK SA's for quite a while now and expecting to use the 4 TK portastudios that I have (about 6) again!! Just pulled out my Tascam 424 and still astounded how good it functions and sounds !! Matter a fact Im gonna post some short drum solos on a big kit I built (of me) from about 8 yrs ago tracked on the 424 in (using 4 mics/4 TKS) "one pass" and then mixed down to CD. You and everyone here will be impressed here Im pretty sure !!:eatpopcorn:

Ok Mark7, Im finally learning how to get around this place LOL...Ive got it posted in the "Analog", "Mp3" and "Tascam" forums and thought it was worthy of sharing. I have 4 more short drum solos that were recorded on the same day I can share IF anyone wants to HEAR more

Great deal! You stole those puppies! I've got some of the same type with Black Magnetite, as well as XLII from other eras. It all sounds great.
By the way, I've got commercial releases on cassette that are older than dirt and played countless times that still sound great! Even better are the ones I copied myself from vinyl or CD to higher quality tapes like Maxell XLII and TDK SA. The tape copies have outlasted many of my original CDs.

I got 3 4TK decks out today tweaking them and fine tuning them with some new tape and WOW I am still amazed at how good they can sound with great tape like those you mentioned that I always used also !!! I think I'll do me an LP on one of them in the near future :thumbs up:

Oh yeh I wasn't sure, thought maybe they were DAT or something, hard to gauge the size of things from a pic. Your experience with tapes has obviously been different to mine. :D Maybe I'm going to blasted for this but I kind of hated them quite a lot. They deteriorated in quality each and every playback, they weren't cheap considering they only lasted only a month or two of usage (if you were lucky). But I must be missing something major, if you say yours are perfect. Why is that, not been played often?

The oldest tape I have is "Queen" from 1973 and it still plays and sounds great. Did you keep the tape heads in you cassette players clean? Dirty heads can mess up a tape. Anyway, I still have more than a hundred tapes and most of them still sound great, both prerecorded and those that I recorded from my vinyl records. I would always record my new albums to cassette tape and listen to the tape in order to keep the vinyl in new condition.
