It won't stay up for long, friends,

I hate corporate music and have no interest in supporting it, but hey, it's only human to sin. Or is it? But so many seem to relish in recording their favourites, so i thought wot da fuck :D

So here's a clean rip-off of the song that probably influenced me more than any other. It's not an interpretation, more of a karaoke thing, but it was fun, and above all it was crazy trying to imitate Strummer's famous seagull noise, I failed miserably, surprise surprise, and I was embarrassed to think the neighbours might hear me going "UH-UH-UH-UH-UH". Anyway, I always thought it was a cock crowing, and not bloody seagulls.

The solo was kindly contributed by our own maestro Timothy Lawler, his first attempt with an electric.

On a serious note, i had to sneak in a salute to the victims of Katrina.

Oh yeah..

Tough one to imitate.. you're no Strummer though, but again who of us are, there can be only one..

I think you nailed the music and all of the small details in the song pretty well..

And Oh my, how I love that album, probably the most complete rock album ever made.. (atleast IMHO.. :) )

Good cover, madmush. Very true to the original. You did good on the vocals.
Different, but not too far off. Mixed very well. Sounds good.

It's an awesome song to cover and you definitely did a good job of getting the feel of it, but I'm not 100% sure that the second chord you play is correct. As to what it actually is, I think it goes from Em (gt1 open and gt2 barre Bbm at the 7th fret) to:

GT1:

E:1
B:1
G:0
D:3
A:3
E:1

With Gt2 playing an 8th fret barre Fmaj7 played over the top of it:

Great job on a classic song!
Love the vocals, rhythm, drums, everything...
Special effects are just right and the guitar solo ROCKS - we want more of these tunes!
This is Bang On! :D

thanks heaps all :)

what do you think about the fact that i by making this recording neglect one of the messages of the song: "london calling to the imitation zone, forget it brother".... :D i always regarded this song a bit like, say, "smoke on the water", there are songs that it would be pathetic to even touch.....

/mrsongwriter
most attempts i've heard have played it a bit like Clash II, a measly Em/F/Em/G, or even a great take like van Zandt/Costello et al at that awards show, played it Em/F/G/G.
you're pretty much spot on there!, but i wasn't concerned with making a perfect copy, i was just having fun ;) most important was letting the bass carry the accentuation of the chord sequence and the guitars sticking brutally to the major key.... well that's how i was feeling/thinking anyways....
