Logoc 8.1 and XP problem

I've just bought a new computer with windows XP and logic gold v8.1 But it wont work!!!
I have the key in one of my com ports but when i try to run logic it says it cant find the key. Ive got the new version of key find but every time i try to run it. The guys at the store told me i might have to buy windows 98 but i dont realy have the money for it. Is there anything else i can do?
 
Please someone help me. I've got next week of from work so i can play with my new computer and logic. I dont want to spend the whole time getting frustrated 'cause i cant do a damn thing!
 
not 100% sure but i'm kinda sure logic gold 4.8.1 doen't support XP. logic 5 does

a week, it might take you longer than that to learn logic :D if you bought logic gold4.8 take it back and get a copyof logic 5 it works on XP

I wasnt planning on mastering logic in a week, just enough so i could record myself playing. And i would have bought logic 5 but it hasnt been released in Australia yet
 
By they way before anyone says it i did mean to type logic v4.8.1 no logoc 8.1, stupid typo. I think ive found a copy of 98 and a program that will help me to partition my did. Will there be any problems if 98 is installed after xp?
 
I use Logic with win98se with no problems. But I dont know if it works with XP. The new 5.0 vesion will, but your talking another 149.00 for the upgrade to gold 5.0. And a long wait !
You can use both OS's on your system, but I think you have to create a dual boot system. According to emagic's system requirements it only runs under 95,98 and Me.

They guys at the shop i bought logic gold from said they'd got it to work on XP before. Has anyone else had success with this. Alos i got two cables with logic. One was a 9 pin male to 9 pin femal and i think the other was a 9 pin female to a 25 pin female. I've only got the 9 pin to 9 pin connected because its the only one that will connect (and only at one end). Is this right?
 
if they got it to work they used a cracked version, because it dosn't support XP. a cracked version, yea it'll work under CP, my friend got logic 4.8.1 platinum of morpheus and he uses it under XP.
