Do any of you guys have any experience with LOGIC? I'm so disgusted with instability of my current system, I'm thinking about going Mac..

Any thoughts?

Logic is amazing for MIDI and audio. Its worth it just for the quality of the Instruments it comes with.

Audio editing is OK, it works fine, but feels a bit more clunky than some other programs.

Overall, I would highly recommend it. It is a very in depth program, and can do just about whatever you want it to do. The learning curve can be kind of steep on it, so I would suggest picking up Apple's Pro Training Series manual for Logic Pro 7/Logic Express 7.

What's the difference between the two?

From the little bit I have read and researched on Logic, it really looks user friendly. I've got a good grasp on Nuendo, pretty much self taught on it...on the other hand, Protools (M-Powered) confused the hell out of me because I was accustomed to the Steinberg type stuff.

Is the learning curve pretty tough on Logic/DP?

Thanks,

If you're familiar with recording software it shoulden't be a big leaning curve then.

If I were going to switch platforms this is the software package I would go with. Sound on Sound editor Paul White is a long time Logic user and was impressed enough with this junior version to say in his review of a few months ago that it has all the necessary features and none of the esoteric ones.

I might also suggest AudioDesk if you are going with a Mac system and one of the MOTU interfaces. It comes bundled with the interface and is very easy to use. Essentially it's a stripped down version of Digital Performer without MIDI. When you're ready to move up, the switch to DP is painless.

I started out with logic back in 1997 or 1998 on a very low spec PC. it took me a while to get used to it, but i have used that same version (3.6 or something ridiculous like that) ever since. It just goes like a train. I used a dedicated PC for music now that runs Windows ME, because logic and XP don't work that well as a team.

I have tried other programs . . . Cubase, Cakewalk and so on . . . but I keep returning to Logic. I accept that my version is out-of-date and does not have all the functionality of contemporary packages, but there are always ways of coping with that.

I'm sorry your experience has been disappointing. My hasn't.

However, I do know that a large part of satisfaction comes from how well the program's construction matches how you prefer to work. A friend of mine tried Logic, but couldn't come to grips with it. He's just bought himself Sonar and has taken to it like a duck to ducksoup.
