It's probably one of the most simplified DAWs I've used, which isn't a bad thing. Very easy workflow, everything's laid out nicely, a lot of usable features; amp modeling, built in plugins. If you have the money and are dead set on it, it's not a bad decision what so ever.
There's also Reaper, which a lot of people will suggest on these boards. It's got a free trial period so you can check that one out as well.

Logic is great - it's what I have used for a while now. If you are truly just starting off mixing, may I recommend Logic Express instead of Logic Studio? Unless there are some features in Studio that you REALLY want, you could save yourself $300 by going with Express. Either way you will be getting a great, solid program, but you might want to look closely at the differences between Express and Studio to see if the extra money is worth it to you.

Yeah, Logic Express is awesome. It has everything you need to produce great music and if there's anything you ever feel it is lacking, there's always third-party plugins.
