Logic Studio 9 - setup

Hi

I am building a studio for my school, and was just wondering if there were any sound mixers that inputed there individual channels into Logic?

Or is there an easier way to set it all up??

If you want a mixer to input directly into logic, you'll need to get a digital mixer. There's a ton out there, it just depends on how many channels you want to record at a time, and how many other features you want. If you get an analog mixer, you'll need some type of converter to do the analog to digital conversion before hitting logic. Here's some reading that may help you:

Live Performances - using mainstage with Logic 9

thanks for that.

Also, what is the best way to have multiple instruments (eg. a whole band) into Mainstage so that effects can be added to live performances!

Is there any special gear needed for this?

Yes, but you'd need ADAT expansion cards in the Yamaha and a compatible soundcard for the Mac that had sufficient banks of ADAT I/O for your needs. As far as I am aware, there are no firewire cards available for those Yamaha mixers. Alternatively you could find a mixer with a firewire such as the Tascam DM series, or (on the cheaper side) a Mackie analog mixer with firewire expansion card.

I'd probably recommend forgetting the mixer idea altogether and looking for some audio interfaces that would fulfil your requirements... look at some of the offerings from Motu or Presonus.

Maybe consider investing in something like a Motu 896mk3 which would give you 8 mic inputs from the word go, and which you could then expand up to 24 channels by adding two Motu 8pre units connected via ADAT. That would make sense to me.

Take a read through this...
