Hey guys..so i've been experimenting for days with logic pro 9..and i've been really happy with the results ive had..ive had some late nights and non stop sleep..but managed to really be happy with some projects.
I've posted some audio in the mp3 clinic, but it seems to have gone ignored.
I'm dealing with rapping over alot of mp3 instrumentals, apart from reverb/delay and eq/compression, what other things can you do to help give the vocals that 'mixed feel'?
I searched youtube and there wasnt much to go on..same with google..
Any help would be dearly appreciated

Hey,
Are you talking about the one you posted an hour ago?
The link doesn't work, for me at least, but even if it did, one hour isn't much time.

I listened to the one from a few days ago.
In my opinion you need to give the performance more strength.
To me, it sounds like you don't want your parents to know you rap.

Getting the performance down is so much more important than any post processing. Others may disagree.

Same with the problem on the link for me, unable to play the song.

didnt it..i posted a few and added them as attachments on here??..And i see, well i'll definetely look into more performance on the vocals then g

just had a look on the link and ive posted 2 new tunes..which had 0 views..so dunno which one you guys tried downloading

Aye, the link shows up, but it doesn't actually link to your song.
I tried it several times.

Just edit the post, manage attachments, delete your song and try again.
It's nothing you did MasterRS, The attachment system has been dodgy for a while around here.

Personally, I just use soundcloud now.
It's much more reliable and there's no waiting for the download.

aah right okay..yea i mean i agree in somewhat..i think some of my past performances have lacked performance and the vocals..but thats why im a 'senior member' as ive taken time out to rethink my lyrics and focus..now on my new material i posted i think the performance is there but not the mixing/mastering..

ill post it on soundcloud now the song

Cool. Obviously I don't know your methods, but I usually find vocalists shy away if they have both sides of the headphones on, and if the headphone level is loud.
Specifically, if the vocals are loud in the headphones, that can be off putting.

When someone's recording a take here, I actually lower the voice in their headphones when a chorus comes up, because their tendency is to sing louder then.

good ppint stein..okay heres my situation..basically i've been playing with cubase for around a year..ive produced some music on it which has been good..but never been happy or felt i had a pro sound..i used logic pro 9 as i just got a mac..and am so happy with the sound am getting i really feel it sounds pro and how i want it..but my problem is that im using a se electronics x1 mic, and no matter what volume i have my audio interface at (low or high) it seems to be my vocals sound very thin..and not mixed in if so. alot of the time im dealing with working against mp3 instrumentals..the other thing is that im told by my manager that my vocals sound distorted..i dont know hw this is happening as the original vocals aren't..

you can tell me which you think sounds better if any..and what you feel as i would be heavily apprciative!

oh and the sound am trying to get is 'k koke' or 'wiley' kind of sound..pro yano

Ok, i will do that, but I can't right now.
I'm just in the middle of something.

Before I do listen though, vocals sounding thin is something I'd try to fix before it's recorded, if possible.

What I mean is you can use effects to fix a problem, sure, but the real source of the problem is either the voice, the room, or the microphone.

From the track I heard the other day I'd say a strong performance is what you're lacking.
Do a sample test, just a couple of lines. Stay close enough to the mic but raise it up so you have to keep your chin up, breathe deep, chest out, and pretend you're performing to a big crowd.

A big part of recorded vocal sound is the resonance from your body; The sounds from your chest.
If you're whispering or singing quietly this doesn't come across at all.

I reckon there'll be a big difference in the sound if you try that out.

i'll definetely try that steen. And thank you for your time. Well in fairness i am recording in just one room, but i took the advise of my manager a sound engineer and i not only have the se electronics sound filter booth around my mic stand but a towel on top wrapped around the mic/stand..and then a pop filter too..alone i think the vocals sound fine..so i dont think theres a problem there..so maybe your right i'll try that as i plan on recording something new a bit later..

Good stuff. It depends what you're going for, but I guarantee if Eminem recorded a track in your house, your neighbours would be pissed.
You gotta give it balls man! :)

yeah..your opinion right..could it be my audio interface input mic volume? because i struggle to know what to put it on..the saffire 6 interface has 0-9 on a input volume level..right now am normally 6-7..but should i have it on the max ?

No. I say it's my opinion because there's always someone ready to argue if you don't, but really, you need to sing/rap stronger.
In terms of the final output, it's not a volume thing; It's a fullness thing.

If you turn up the gain your recording will probably distort. It'll be a loud, distorted, weak rap.
Also, don't turn it up to ten. The chances are you'll have far too much audible hiss and you'll definitely distort unless you sing from metres away.

Now, don't get me wrong, if a smooth, laid back, relaxed sound is what you want, that's fine, but you'll have to find the balance between that and strength when you're recording.
That's where the fullness will come from.

right okay..well ill definetely take that into consideration and do that on all my recordings now...and do that fair point ;) as one day i hope i can be as good as you. your musics just amazing man..but i been learning a year and a half now and come along way..got to keep working at it..

Great stuff Master, I hope it helps.

Thanks for the compliment too! Glad you liked them.

Definetely and thank you so much for the feedback. if you get a chance listen to those lats 2 songs because ive really worked on them and my flow..so maybe it could just be my mixing/mastering/eq..my manager reckons its my eq..

Okay..Steen recorded a new song and took your advice..changed the following things- strong performance, slightly diff mic angle and recorded in my bathroom with door closed..i felt this would eliminate if it was my room, as i felt before there was a slight echo from the room..
The things i struggled with: EQ on my vocals and getting that 'mixed' in feel with the vocals to correlation of the instrumental
