logic is driving me crazy

I'm just starting to use logic (RPC-the Roland version) & have a few things driving me crazy:
-Whenever it hits the 150 measure point in a song, Logic automatically shuts down recording.
-It seems there is no way to adjust input levels, which is especially annoying when trying to dump tracks from my VSR-880 which has no way to adjust output levels to the rbus.
-The sound quality of the tracks I dump from the VSR-880 is inferior to the quality of the original tracks. It just sounds thinner & less warm. Could it be I am recording at 16 bit instead of 24? If so, where do I change this?

Hope this helps....

In Logic Gold, there's a control in the "Audio Window" that selects how long a "recording track" should be before it "shuts off"...

This is used on a "per track" basis... I have mine set to shut off at 7 minutes... This reduces alotted disk space required for "buffering" in Logic...

As for your other questions, are you recording from the Roland into Logic? Or are you recording directly into your computer?

I don't exactly understand your setup...
If your version is like normal Logic - All you have to do is select a track - Select the input
Arm it - And go...

I generally adjust the audio input on the device going in so I don't have that problem - ie: I adjust the output of the pre-amp to accomodate the input level on Logic...

Does this help?

also,

if 150 measures is not enough, reduce the bpm rate. should fix that.

do you have spdif i/o?

The levels being sent on the RBUS are set according to the channel faders on my VM3100. I'm not sure how they route it on the VS's.

If you recorded everything at a good level there shouldn't be any gain added unless you are using effects or compression with makeup gain. You can't control the input level because it is all digital and there would be no point in reducing it at that stage. The transfer should be EXACTLY what is on the VS. If it sounds different it is most likely your monitoring chain. How are you monitoring the tracks?

One thing to look out for is that the RBUS driver by default sends an entire monitor mix back on outputs 1/2. Turn that off in the driver to avoid feedback loops.

I believe the levels are the same from the VS to Logic, its just that the level meters in logic are much more sensitive than on the VS & there are some transient peaks that look (& sound) fine on the VS, but clip on Logics meters.

I am monitoring from the channel outputs on the back of the VSR-880 (direct out on). I am monitoring logic from the bus outs of the vm-3100 (I had no 1/4" cables available, so could not use master outs). I have ch13-20 routed to the bus outs.

Also-while I have your attention-please read my other thread this forum:

thanks

Don't worry about the meters. Is there an audible distortion on the Logic tracks where there wasn't any in the VS? If so that could be a bitrate issue. I'm afraid I dont recall how to change the bitrate in Logic offhand.

I don't know what your pops and clicks problem is. It's usually a computer config issue and I've been lucky enough to never have to really dive into that.

I'm still not sure why the tracks would sound different. Make sure you turned off the monitor send to outputs 1/2 on the RBUS because that will definately cause some weird issues if you are also manually assigning those tracks to other outputs.
