they seem like a good thing. does anybody use locking tuners? do they improve your sound any? what are your opinions on them? just curious...

STH,

I use them (sperzels) on my f@#$ed-up strat and they're really pretty cool. Very easy to string-up, just pull the string straight through and crank down the lock...great if you break a string mid-set and need a quick change. They seem to have about the same mass as regular tuners so they don't seem to affect the sound. The key, though, is a properly cut and smoothed nut. If this isn't done right the strings will get hung up and come back sharp every time you wang the bar. I haven't been into the bar that much lately, but when I was I could make those strings look like telephone wires and they would come back fine. (graph tech nut helps too).

peace.

A good way to keep the nut smooth (stop that) is to get some graphite, or a mechanical pencil and get the graphite into the grooves of the nut. Even apply a little graphite before and after the nut on the string. That should help it stay in tune. If you have a floating bridge also, a Tune-O-Matic would be a great thing to help keep it in tune if you're using the whammy bar much.

They saved my Gibson Les Paul.

I mean, nice sounding guitars, but the tuners are a piece of shit. With locking tuners, they don't wiggle out of tune and if I break a string in concert I'm back in business in 60 seconds.

Sperzels RULE!! Just don't let the knurled knob get loose and fall off in a dark bar,'cause with it goes the pin that presses up against your string and it's time for a new tuner...

sperzels saved my les paul too...wouldn't stay in tune for shit. now it rarely goes out.

VirtualRay,
Yeah, that lost pin thing happened to me too. The other guitarist in my band had his guitar crap out mid-set. I was playing my Hamer and passed him over my strat to finish the set. He gives it back to me at the break and says "so what do you do with these knobs?" He had loosened the b string lock knob all the way, droppped the pin and put the knob back. He thought the knobs were fine tuners! D'oh!

yewah
sperzels are definitely cool esp. on fender with whammy
