ESS sound cards are not made by Creative Labs - they are simply Sound Blaster compatible and therefore do not support SoundFonts through hardware. If you are using a Cakewalk product like Sonar or Home Studio 2002, you can use the DXi softsynth called LiveSynth which lets you load SoundFonts and use them with any soundcard.
