live vocals?

how exactly do i get live vocals? i plug in my mic to the mixer.. and then the mixer into speakers? monitors? using the xlr cables? details please.. =(

or
Line level mixer into power amp into speakers.

Not quite clear what your question is. Are you recording, or just want live sound?
