Friday night we cleared out our living room, and my trio came over. We invited about 25 people and I cooked an Italian meal. Our living room has great acoustics-harwood floors, lath walls, and arched ceiling on all walls. It is 20' x17' and the house was built in 1936. THe lath walls are very dense.
We set up the band, and all of us were within 3 feet of each other. I used the PA for just a smudge of volume, so I sing quietly when I wanted. It was done on 5 tracks-
vocals/harp-1
guitar amp - 2,3
drums-5,6

we left the bass alone. MY friend Ar E, blew some sax in a lazy boy. Our volume was very low. I really only neded the PA on the quiet singing/harp songs. We had a blast. Patti Sterling was suppose to be here, but she hurt her knee. We are hoping to see her up here soon!

That is the good news. The bad news is about 2/3 of the second set got messed up. The best way to describe it is like this- each track soounds good alone, but when all are on, it is like they all start different times. There is a pop right when it happened. I get this sometimes, when I record extended times, like 20+ minutes, without stoping and saving. Has anyone had this problem before, and is there a cure?

I salvaged 2 of the messed up songs. A darkness fell over our land. This one had a pop in it, and it was like the thing skiped. The other song, Riptide, an instrumental, I used only the vocal/harp track, and the drum tracks. It stayed fairly intact. Any help on this would be appreciated! Thanks Walter

the songs:
a darkness fell over this land
greed means we go down
don't knwo if I want to live anymore
moaning for your love
illegal imigration in the usa
riptide
the old bluesmen touched my heart
I got the blues for sure
does this make sense?
grovvin cadillac boogie

Darkness sounds pretty good Walter. Sounds like a good jam, and everyone had some fun... :D I heard a glitch in it, but it all seemed to come back together afterwards. I got no clues as to how to fix those things....
Sorry man. :o

thanks Dogman. It was suggested that leaving effects on the software mixer, while recording can cause this. I had reverb on each track, and on the master control, I added some compression and a limiter. Walter

Moanin for your love

- sounds like big fat strings with the tone on that electric guitar!

- got a pretty good sound on the drums but maybe could have used a bit more snare, high hat is really good.....

Good to hear some jamming sponto beat style......

Riptide

- Classic reverb on the guitar - almost surfin' style baby!
- great picking speed on those notes at 1:00
- good blues licks throughout
- heard a second guitar way off in the background towards the end - any way to bring this into the mix?

Not getting any clipping or glitches on my PC Speakers...

Enjoyed these tunes man...sponto-jammin'!!!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

WAlter,
The hoodoo continues. I get nothing but error messages when I try to start or download one of the new songs from soundclick.
Now I have greed streaming but darkness popped up the player then "undefined" instead of playing.
Send Bush a copy of Greed will ya & one to my prime minister John "yellow running Dog" Howard.
The bass ounds great for something you didn't directly mic.
Nice work - the snare rattles a bit - but that's the live reality isn't it?
Don't know - I love the key intro 'B".. good musos you have there.
Cheers

thanks idol1957 for giving your feedback! The strings are 10's, on a cheapo MIK bone stock, Tokai copy of a 335. I agree with the snare not loud enough. I used 2-oktava M012's over the drums. Nest time I will add another to the snare. ON riptide - that is all me on guitar.

rayc: Weird stuff with soundclick! I am trying how to figure out how to send a copy of illegal imigrants in the USA, to NPR. With all this stuff on the front page, I thought they might use it for one of their short musical segways between topics. I sing about bush all the time, and when I was younger, about reagan. I was very explicit then, and often sang about blowing him away. The secret service gave me a long talk about doing that, so with bush, I keep it more tame, but the message is the same! Walter
katherine (drummer) was all "rattled" about the bass rattling her snare. Like you say, live is live.
