My band is playing a gig next week with onsite sound, and everything is miked. I want to record the gig and then edit it, and I'm wondering if I can do that with my Boss BR-532. I assume I can hook up to his mixer to just input the signal, then bring it to my pc for editing and burning. But I'm not sure if I need to do any special settings, stereo, etc., to the 532. As you can tell, I'm a novice (read: idiot) at this, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Tim

You should be able to take the 2 RCA tape outs from the board right into the line in on the BR532. I use a KORG PXR4, so I'm not exactly sure what connectors you need to do it, but the BOSS has got to have a stereo line in. Better have a lot of memory, though. In high resolution, my PXR4 will record 90 track minutes on a 128mb Smart Media card. In stereo, that's 45 minutes. If you have a small card, you'll run out of memory real quick. Hope this helps. BTW, if everything isn't mic'd, and you want better sound, try a SONY one point mic (stereo mic with battery, no need for phantom power).-Richie

Thanks Richie. That helps. I have two 128 MB cards. I'm not even sure if that will be enough. I don't know if they make a 256MB card, but if they do, I'll try to pick some up.

Well, lead dog, the 256 mb card is coming soon (this year), but it ain't out yet. Check with support people at BOSS to find out if your 532 will support it when it does. I suspect your 532 has multiple resolution choices. My Pandora does low, medium, and high. for a live band, standard (medium level) would probably be OK, but you have to try it and see. Once you start in one resolution, I doubt you can change without creating a new song, so be prepared for that. best of luck. Maybe we'll eventually get a card recorder forum. There's getting to be a few of us who use them for auxiliary or mobile/personal recorders. I'm here to tell you, I've got about $18,000 invested in my studio, and I still wouldn't sell my Pandora!-Richie
