On most powered mixers there is a "tape out" jack...my band has all the equipment we need including monitors and everything, but what kind of tape recorder should we hook the mixer up to when we do live recordings? Also, once we have a copy on tape, how can we get it onto a CD?

Computer Recording

Hey

You should come out of the mixer into the computer and record onto that. This will be far better quality and easy to edit and to burn onto a CD.

If you record on tape though you can come out of the tape deck and record a .WAV file on the computer and then burn to CD.

You should hook up the best recording unit you can get your hands on... If it's digital, make sure it does NOT clip (keep the peaks low.. somewhere -12/-8 dB). Then it's easy to transfer it to a PC and burn a CD.
