nice copy version track...you did it quite well.. great singer too...
what a band that janis had....eh? all dual showmans, SG gtrs....the good stuff!!

Wow TrackRat, nice job!
That singer can sing, guitar is killer!

Superb!

Thanks for sharing that. Did you guys do Bobbe Magee too?
Would love to hear that gal wail on that one.

Man I love the bass in that song. That singer's amazing!

sounds great, TR - did you have to compress a lot? I know nothing about recording live, and am trying to get the hang of compression in general. Every little reference helps.

That's right off the board. I was playing my tele thru a Rockman directly into the PA. It made it easy to get a good mix out front, no fighting a too loud amp on stage. Bass has an amp but had a send to the board. Kick, snare and overhead mic to the PA. PL-80's and SM-58's on vocals.
Didn't do Bobby McGee but we used to do Move Over that always got me breathing hard. Thanks for the listens.

Ooops

McGee, hehe, I sure messed up the spelling on that.
Must be late or something. :)

Anyway, awsome sound. Bet you miss that group.

Yeh

Loved it. I usually prefer the live stuff! What part do you play, guitar? Get back in a band, there was a great atmosphere there.

Nice.

Erland

Thanks Erland, I played lead. We were three piece plus the vocalist. We were playing three nights a week for a VERY long time and I was getting tired of not having a social life outside of the band. Plus there was the girlfriend/groupie factor that coud not be denied.:D I've setting in with a local blues band every now and then to get my gigging "fix".

Janis would be dancing in her grave!

I downloaded it all.

Man that chick can SING! Wow!

And you got it captured really right to the bleeding edge. Smooth!
That's a really out front vocal that never sounded over-toasted by her or the board. Well done.

And your electric performance is quite nice. A few notes in hear I take slight issue with, but I'm sure hoping you can make it to the the Jamfest!

I hear that song played by a lot of bands around here and have yet to hear it sound as good as this. Nice guitar too.

Man, that chick can sing! Backup vocals are great, too... Dude, that brings back some teenage memories of mine.

Thanks for the listens. Doc, it was fourth set when we did this one. I was starting to suffer from Tequilla fatigue and was lucky to find my foot let alone the guitar neck:D . The singer could work the mic really well and would back off when she screamed. Again thanks.

Great stuff
I cranked the bass and the volume up in my headphones and closed my eyes, felt like I was there in the back of the room. Just from the musicianship.
Wicked mate. Liked the guitar sound too.

Good job trackrat! Not much of Janis fan, but this is a far better version than other band attempts I've heard. Good singer and playing all around. Kick needs to come up a bit, more panning as well.... :) Great backups singers as well. This song reminds me of purple haze for some reason, never made that connection before. Thanks for posting it!

Thanks again. The mix was off the mains and not a dedicated mix for recording. Running sound from the stage is a losing proposition if you know what I mean.:D I always thought we were an OK bar band. I just wanted to show that not all recording is smoke and mirrors, cutting and pasting. You have to play and sing too.

Wow.

Wow.

Three questions -

1. Did you ever capture "Move over" on tape??

2. Did you ever get that vocalist to sing Cry Baby?

3. Just how did you reincarnate Janis?

My all time favorite tunes!!

I'm sad to say I never got Move Over recorded, which is a shame because I always felt it was one our strongest tunes.
Same with Cry Baby. We did that one too but never imortalized on acitate.
As for Janice, we found an old roach she had toked on and put it in an ashtry and poured some Jack Daniels over it and it grew.
The singer had a great set of pipes but was THE BIGGEST pain in the ass deva hoe I ever met in my life.
