first recording in months, do i still suck???? huh huh???

i wanna know how you guys think this sounds (background vocals were done later). i read how the kingsmen recorded louie louie and figured "hey, me too". the set up was with 3 mics total (one vocal mic, one room mic which got the guitar and bass and one mic for the drums). i thought it turned out for a decent live recording, let me know what you think.. the song is a cover by the way

mics used:
vocal mic: sm 58
guitar and bass room mic: behringer xm8500
drum: same as guitar

Well, it's more than a little shrill. I think your mic placement bought you some phase inversion and the MP3 compression didn't help you much either. Can't hear the bass at all. the drum mic is clipping like crazy. You don't suck, I like your voice, but you do need to read up on recording technique and take another shot at this one. I realize this was an experiment in mic technique, but I can't say I'd classify it as a success. Pretty decent tune, do it some justice with a bit more judicious hand at the console.

for how shittily i set this up, it kinda came out at bootleg quality level i thought which is what i was kinda going for.

I think the shrillness has something to do with purevolume's compression. I like purevolume, but they seem to love making every mp3 posted sound like crap.
I think many people who use it post there stuff, and never listen to what it actually sounds like on the site, so they don't know how bad it is. Have you listened as it is on purevolume?
