live band needs soundcard

My band records live.

Any suggestions on good soundcards.

As of yet price is not an issue... I am looking for quality!

The Aardvark Q10 is great. 8 XLR | 1/4" mic pres 4 w/ phamton power and inserts which i dont thing you'll need. Fits nicely it a rack too for your live rig set-up. Even has direct outs for all eight channels w/ a patchbay.

There is a difference in price between the aardvark pro Q10 and the Delta 1010. They seem about the same.

Anybody know any significant differences I should watch for?

Can I hook an electric guitar directly into the Delta 1010 without a preamp?

If you're going to be recording your band live, with the exception of the bass which can be DI'd successfully, the best way is to mic your amps & drums. If your using mics, you're going to need preamps to boost the signals to an acceptable level

Inserts are for effects/ external processors and stuff like that.

You get a TRS cable into the insert then run the in and out of the cable in the effect thing and it will go into the signal into the computer with the effect.

I'm pretty sure thats what al it does. Correct me if I'm wrong..

Clarify, please..

When you say your band records live, do you mean that when recording, you all play live simultaneously, just as if it was a gig, OR, do you mean you record when your band is playing live AT a gig?

The difference here is my assumption that if you're recording yourself playing live AT a gig, that you already have some sort of acceptable-quality mixer that you use live, which you could use the direct outs (assuming it has them) to feed the sound card. This means you would not need mic preamps on the soundcard itself, and could get by with the 1010.

If you say money is no object, then the floodgates are open.

Which scenario are you referring to, and what is your current equipment setup, mixer and microphone-wise?

It would also help if you tell us what kind of music, and the instrumentation, i.e., 2 guitars, bass & drums or harp, flute, tabla & digideroo, etc.

(If it's a digideroo, you hafta buy a Rode. )

My band wants to record live as in together simultaneously(not sure on the spelling). I have a Behringer Eurorack UB2442FX-PRO Mixer, i have recording software on my computer(n-track studio) and i want to be ably to send a lot of tracks to my computer, but i'm kinda broke, any suggestions?

What sort of platform are you using? Windows? MacOS?

I ask because I used to have a PC and used the aardvark directpro (which is a 4 pre-amp version of the Q10) and it worked "alright". Aardvark's drivers are terrible and their technical support is even worse.

When I moved to MacOS, I discovered that the aardvark mac drivers were useless. I ditched my direct pro and got a MOTU 896HD. AMAZING interface. 8 high quality mic preamps, 8 outputs, and meters for everything. For live recording, I couldn't imagine anything much better. It's firewire too, so you could use a notebook computer with it. I believe it's also compatible with Windows, so you might want to check it out. It's running $1240 and I believe it's price controlled by motu, but it's worth the months of pay I shelled out for it, haha.
