I do mobile sound for small groups and choirs. I currently use a small Mackie board with a stereo minisdisc recorder, but I want to switch to multi-track recording.
I have a bad back, and like to keep everything simple, light and compact.
I am hoping to retire my Mackie and Minidisc in favour of something like a Fostex VF-16/160, Yamaha AW16G, or ???.
I need to record 8 tracks at once, while providing EQ and hopefully a bit of compression.
I understand that I would still need an external mixer if I used the Fostex, since it will only record 8 tracks at once if the internal mixer and effects are bypassed.
Is that also the case with the Yamaha, Korg and Akai units?
