Listening while drunk

Hi..

Being the narcisist I am, I'm listening to the latest stuff I've recorded... Only now that I'm drunk, I hear loads of ugly shit in the mixes I DON'T HEAR when I'm sober. I hear (unintended) distortion. I hear compressor breathing, I hear noise.

This sux. I try to be really focused when I work with music, only to be proven wrong (by myself :P ) when I'm drunk....

Well... i'll try that the next time I'll mix/master..
 
Youve just discovered what most already know.....Yngwie Malmstenn sucks.....wait, what the hell does that have to do with anything?....

I thought I heard hints of distortion in some of the low end but I was on headphones so....

anyway, even with distortion, the tracks I heard are killer....denitely commercial quality songs....and best listened to drunk.....
 
interesting thing, inebriation..

according to what my psychology teacher told me years ago.. if you try to remember something when drunk, then you will not remember it when sober.. however, you WILL be able to retrieve it from memory next time you're drunk..

case in point.. i was drunk in class the day i heard this theory.. and only remembered it cuz i'm drunk now...

so i wonder.. if you mix it to sound right when you are drunk.. does it sound like shit when you are sober? and will it sound ok the next time you get hammered?

Now you know why most musicians go in and out of rehab - well thats now, in the past they were all just bloody good drunks
 
Ahhh, finally! Another reinforcing habit (it's good enough for me).

How often are you drunk? My bro smokes up all the time and can function just fine. Same when he drinks. I on the other hand don't drink much at all and I'm just worthless when I drink. That's my answer and I'm sticking to it!
 
Here's another tip:

Try smoking hash while mixing :

FREE SURROUND SOUND !!!!!

Just be sure to distroy the mix before sobering.
 
It is amazing all of the things you don't need to worry about anymore when you stop drinking. Who's gonna drive? What if I get pulled over? Where should I put these empties? Is it legal to drink here? How close am I to .08 (or whatever the limit is)? Just what is the limit? Would I be acting like this if I weren't drunk?

These were everyday concerns...

I can add this to my list. I'll have to get you guys to check my mixes for drunkability.

you think things sound different when drunk ? well what about with a gut full of acid or magic mushrooms. How do you think sargent pepper was made.I can tell you you will hear things that arn't there but sound fantastic. for a point in case try getting a copy of the meat puppets first wich was recored whilst they were all tripping of their nuts(and it sounds like it) and do an a/b test I.E. listen to ti straight then take a listen when you are tripping its a whole new world.OH BY THE WAY DRUGS ARE BAD O.K.AND I IN NO WAY SUPPORT DRUG ABUSE(EXPERIMENTL AND RECREATIONAL THATS A DIFFERENT STORY). WHAT ABOUT DRUGS FOR SPELLING IS THERE ANY?

I remember all the stuff I would "find" in songs that was always there, I just never heard. Heightened awareness? Who knows. After coming down, I'd realize the sounds were still there, just missed 'em before...

Then there was the time I was playing darts... My friends roomate thought I was hustling them. We were playing some sort of drinking game. I kept asking him what would be a good number to get, he'd tell me, I'd proceed to throw that number. Doubles, triples, bulls, you name it. I normally suck at darts.

Drugs were fun too...

Personally I find doing almost anything drunk is just tiring, a waste of time. And anyone who drives under the influence of ANYTHING is a complete idiotic jackass.

I have, however, no problem with listening to something while high. Doesnt happen much anymore, I'm pretty much retired from all that for a long time. But I think it has mostly to do with the effect of TCH making you very oblivious to anything other than the one thing you are TRYING to do. It makes you (or at least used to make me) very single minded, any other distractions just seased to exist. So you can listen to something very intently.

Have you ever tried to set a "Tap Tempo" switch when you are loaded with caffeine?
